Day 6: Find the Planter

October 29, 2009 by Renee K Walker Leave a Comment

I was awaken at 5 after 6 this morning by the trainer opening the door. I don’t think I would have awaken any time soon if she hadn’t done that. We did our busy things and got to breakfast. When we came in, Nancy was telling the people in the room about her Halo game. I think she really liked that. The food was good as usual. We learned some more Spanish and the differences between Mexican Spanish and Puerto Rican Spanish, etc. Murdering the languages as usual, we ate our meal with laughter. We mean no disrespect, but 2 of us at the table have very Southern accents.
We fed the dogs on our own today. We went one at a time and found the bowls, measured the right amount of dog food, and then sat in our chair with our dogs in down and under between our legs. We have to keep them in control. No jumping at bowls, or other dogs bowls, etc. Joe was hungry this morning. He jumped at his bowl for the first time and tried to get Misti’s dog’s bowl. He ate and then did his busy. He likes to poopie in the morning after meal.
Obedience was the practice quickly of sit/stay and down/stay and long leash. We then went on our walks. I went first as usual. I had already done my nebulizer, so I took my rescue inhaler. Surprise, Surprise. We had a totally new route from a different door. We went down the loading ramp to the curb. Joe found it for me first off. Good thing because he had a 6 or 7 inch drop that I didn’t see. We then went across the front of the building to the Freedom Trail. He found every curb. Then it was left/left find the planter. Kate showed me the planter. When Joe touched his nose their she made sure her hand was under it with a few pieces of dog food in it. I did the usual praise party. Oh good boy!!!! We did a round about and repeated the commands. Same thing. Good boy. Then we headed back the same way. We turned around a started the whole route again. This one is twice the length of the short route about 1/4 of a mile. Joe found every curb including a new one that is just a dip with dirt at the bottom to the street. I finally said left/left find the planter. Joe went straight for it. He touched it and we had a real big party. He wagged and wagged. There was no food this time, but after a second the praise was plenty good. After that we went to lunch. Homemade sloppy Joes…. I really want this recipe. It was absolutely delicious. I also had our table’s new drink. The Blind Cocktail. It is half lemonade and half sweet tea. Delicious. Better than trying to get the just right lemon tea. Oh, the name? Well, think about it. A blind person wants sweet tea. Two pitchers are in front of them. Pours from one tastes. Oh!! Lemonade! Tries to pour it out, but doesn’t see that they only poured out half. Pours in sweet tea. Tastes. What! Oh,no a mix, but wait, it is delicious. A new drink is born…. smile
After lunch, Joe and I crash on our bedroom floor cuddle together. We sleep for two hours until he gets hungry at his regular feeding time. He eats good. He even does number 1 at relief time. I am seeing changes here. He is getting used to me! I will have his schedule figured out soon. hehe

Next is laundry. Joe helped. He put the clothes in the dryer for me and made sure they were flat enough for folding. big grin
Supper!

After supper, I tried to watch a descriptive movie, Two Grumpy men with Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. Sweet storyline but cussing and stuff was bad. I left it very early and busied Joe. Then we went to our room and watched our own movie. Joe was ready for bed and kept going back to his bed. I finally let him sleep. After the movie, I decided to go to bed myself. So here we are. It was a very hectic, but productive day. I and Joe seem to be increasingly better as a team each day that goes by. Kate says were are right where we should be. That is a good note to end on.
